Aviation Safety Inspector (Unmanned Aircraft Systems), GS-1825-13 (MAP)

As a Aviation Safety Inspector (Unmanned Aircraft Systems), you will perform the following duties:
Manage Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) fleet activities; research, evaluate and validate equipment requirements; develop and evaluate technical specifications for unmanned systems; assist in developing UAS handbooks and procedures; and perform operational risk management assessments. Evaluate proposed modifications to aircraft for compliance with establish standards, and develop specifications for technical studies and aircraft modifications. Monitor employment of UAS systems, coordinate evaluations of and recommendations on various types of UAS, serve as technical specialist on UAS accident investigation teams, and for UAS standardization and operational procedures. Develop and manage the inspection criteria and schedule for the fleet of NOAA owned and/or operated UAS, conduct inspections of UAS aircraft and ancillary equipment, and review qualification training programs for UAS personnel. General Requirements:
Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years; Valid State driver's license; Fluency in the English language; No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance; and High school diploma or equivalent. Medical Requirements:
Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner, and must meet all of the following requirements:
Have good distant vision in each eye and be able to read printed materials the size of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses permitted) without strain. Have the ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aid permitted). Not have any physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others or that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft. In addition, applicants for positions that require participation in the operation of aircraft must:
Possess a valid second-class medical certificate in accordance with Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) regulations; and Pass recurrent medical examinations as prescribed by the FAA. Interviews and Assessments:
Applicants may be required to appear for an interview and/or other assessments to determine whether they possess the necessary competencies and personal qualities to successfully perform Aviation Safety Inspector duties. In addition, applicants for Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) positions will be required to demonstrate proficiency in an airplane or simulator. NOTE:
Possession of all requirements will be verified prior to appointment. -AND- Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify at the GS-13 level:

Experience:
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, applicants must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
Managing Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) fleet activities including procurement, inventory control, maintenance, airworthiness and compliance with regulations and policies; and Leading inspections of UAS aircraft and ancillary equipment to ensure maintenance and safety compliance with aviation and other applicable regulations.
