Summary:
EDUCATION AND
Experience:
High school diploma.
Fluency in English, bilingual preferred.
Basic understanding of algebraic principles.
1 year of Ophthalmic Technician experience preferred.
Two years experience in a medical office preferred.
Excellent spelling ability.
Completion of Ophthalmic Assisting Home Study Course after 90 day probationary period.

Excellent verbal and written communication, with attention to detail.
Management of multiple projects simultaneously.
Legible handwriting.
Computer literacy.
Basic medical and ophthalmic terminology.
Ability to pass drug test.
Responsibilities:
Any and all duties assigned by management with an emphasis on the following:
Correctly summarize and document what the physician says during an examination, including but not limited to:
proper charting of the examination, documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment and recommendations for treatment (including justification of decisions reached when appropriate).
Ensure patient understands all instructions.
Accurately document chart errors according to the following format:
Maintain patient flow, by ensuring a minimum of two patient rooms are always occupied.
Remain as close to the physician as possible and limits time away from the physician and the patient.
Alert physician to patient-related forms that need completion.
Become fluent in the exact requirements of each examination.
Accommodate the needs of the patient for the exam:
Monitor examination room and any physical limitations the patient may have.
Ensure the patient chair is down before the patient prepares to leave, the equipment is off, the slit lamp is out of the way, etc.
Evaluate the condition of the examination room to ensure adequate supplies are in stock.
Notify physician of changes to the daily schedule, especially emergencies.
Perform other tasks as required.
Assemble and disassemble SLT machine according to protocol.
Perform visual field tests.
Perform visual acuity testing and pinhole tests.
Perform Schirmer's tests as ordered by the physician.
Instill eye drops according to protocol.
Tonopen documentation.
Obtain consent.
Complete surgical report form.
Prepare forms for biopsy reports.
Call for pick up of specimen when necessary.
Remove all instruments from exam room for sterilization.
Assist physician with minor in-office procedures:
Return and appropriately document patient telephone calls.
Monitor patient flow, ensuring the physician exam rooms are always full.
Act as scribe for the physician.
Stock all exam rooms according to written supply list.
Confirm appointments with patients day prior to appointment PHYSICAL ABILIITES:
Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours.
Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly-lit setting.
Must be able to hear softly spoken words.
